calmbirth® ... imagine a calm, joyful beginning to your baby’s life
calmbirth® is a childbirth preparation program assisting you to feel confident and empowered in the birth of your baby
calmbirth ® skills guide you to birth your baby in a positive, calm and relaxed way. The classes are ideal for all pregnant women and their birthing companion. The calmbirth® program was developed to eliminate the fear and anxiety which many women experience during childbirth by teaching you how your body works to deliver a baby. The techniques you learn will become life skills to use in childbirth and beyond.
What will I learn in the course?
During the calmbirth® classes, pregnant couples learn:
- how the mother's body is beautifully designed to birth her baby naturally and calmly and with the right preparation, to work with the process rather than resist it
- the influence fear and anxiety can have on the mother’s body and on the birthing process
- the importance of a mother's beliefs and attitudes about birth and how these can be one of the major differences between a positive or negative birth experience
- to access their natural inner resources to alleviate the fear , anxiety and tension often experienced during pregnancy, labour and childbirth
- the practical skills of Relaxation, Breathing and Visualisation which are used during pregnancy, labour, childbirth and beyond
- the importance of bonding with their baby and how this affects their baby’s future life
- to be empowered to take control of their own birthing experience
How long do the classes go for?
calmbirth ® classes are 2.5 hours a class over five weeks, or two consecutive weekend days of 6 hours each day. Classes are available after hours to accommodate working couples. Couples receive a calmbirth® book and calmbirth® relaxation CDs.
What is the best time in my pregnancy to attend the course?
Best time to book for a class is between 24-34 weeks gestation or earlier if you are particularly anxious or fearful. A major component of the calmbirth classes is practising the relaxations. It is ideal to give yourself time to practise before you give birth. Starting earlier gives you extra time to practise.
Where are the classes held?
The classes are centrally located at our premises - 199 Corlette Street, The Junction (see 'our location' page for a google map).
Who is the course facilitator?
Lynn Jenkins is a calmbirth ® practitioner and a clinical psychologist. Lynn’s work focuses on a holistic approach for all concerned in the childbirth process. More information on Lynn’s clinical work can be found here.
