“Empathy is about standing in someone else’s shoes, feeling with his or her heart, seeing with his or her eyes…. It makes the world a better place.”

– Daniel H. Pink.

Karren is a Clinical Psychologist whose clinical experience includes working in rural and regional areas with diverse clients of all ages, within a variety of settings (private practice, community services, public mental health, and an in-patient unit). Her particular area of interest is working with adults experiencing Anxiety, Adjustment, Stress and Mood (Depression) Disorders, although her experience includes working with clients across a range of other presentations such as Obsessive-Compulsive, Addiction, Grief, Sleep, and Trauma-related (Complex Childhood Trauma and Post-traumatic Stress) Disorders.
Karren is passionate about working collaboratively to empower clients to live their lives in rich and meaningful ways consistent with their values and goals. Her warm, person-centred approach has helped clients with mild to complex mental health conditions live happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives. Karren believes the therapeutic relationship is one of the biggest factors that facilitates such positive change in her clients and uses evidence-based assessment and interventions to enable these improvements.
Karren’s therapeutic approach primarily involves Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy modalities. However, she also incorporates other evidence-based approaches including Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy.
Karren completed her Master of Psychology (Clinical) at the University of New England, achieving the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar Award. Prior to this she completed her Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) at the University of Newcastle, achieving Honours Class 1. She claims her achievements are not a result of being highly intelligent; they are the result of the hard work she put in so that she would be in the best position to fulfil her passion to help the more vulnerable people in our community experiencing mental health difficulties.
