Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale

Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS)

What: The Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) is used to assess cognitive ability (general thinking and reasoning skills – IQ).

Why: The objective of the assessment is to understand whether or not an individual is gifted, as well as to determine their cognitive strengths and weaknesses. A cognitive assessment may assist in explaining why an individual may be having difficulties at school and with learning. A cognitive assessment may form part of a comprehensive assessment for certain childhood diagnoses including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability and Specific Learning Disorders.

How: The WAIS is conducted in a 2 hour face to face appointment with our Assessment Facilitator. We allow time for breaks in between. Some online assessments shall be provided to complete too. Check with your Private Health Insurance or NDIS funding for Self or Plan Managed if you are covered for rebates. Unfortunately, Cognitive Assessments are not eligible for Medicare rebates.

Who: Ages 16+

Description

In Person Assessments are undertaken at our premises in Hamilton, NSW.  The duration of assessments can be lengthy, please advise if we need to schedule more than usual if additional breaks will be required.

Please note: Diagnosing mental disorders can be complex. Oftentimes an initial round of assessments will not be conclusive, necessitating further assessments or investigations in order to reach a conclusion regarding a diagnosis. If this is the case, you may be contacted and asked to complete additional assessment measures. Additional assessment and report writing costs may be incurred in such cases.
