We love supporting kids, teens and parents to thrive

CHILD, ADOLESCENT & FAMILY PSYCHOLOGY SERVICES IN NEWCASTLE

Childhood is in many ways the most important period of a person’s life, and as parents and carers, we play a key role in supporting the kids in our world to thrive.

At Life Matters, our child psychologists are passionate about using early intervention, emotional regulation and other tested strategies to help carers navigate their children's challenges.

Supporting youth mental health and emotional resilience in children and adolescents

Navigating childhood and adolescence brings unique developmental, emotional, and social challenges. When a young person struggles with persistent anxiety, school refusal, intense emotional outbursts, or social difficulties, early intervention can make a profound difference. At Life Matters Psychologists in Hamilton, our specialised youth practitioners offer a warm, engaging, and entirely safe space designed specifically to help children and teenagers process their feelings and build lasting resilience.

Our approach focuses on understanding the child within their family and school environment. We work collaboratively with parents, paediatricians, and educators across the Hunter region to ensure a holistic, supportive care framework that extends well beyond the clinic room.

Our evidence-based child & youth modalities

Our Newcastle child psychologists utilise age-appropriate, evidence-based interventions tailored specifically to young minds, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Tailored for adolescents to help them recognise and reshape unhelpful thought patterns and manage anxiety or mood shifts.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Helping youth develop psychological flexibility and accept difficult emotions while focusing on positive behaviors.

  • Play-Informed and Creative Therapies: Used for younger children who process emotions and express themselves better through structured play, drawing, and storytelling rather than traditional talk therapy.

  • Parent-Child Support and Guidance: Equipping parents with practical behavioral strategies, emotional co-regulation tools, and structured frameworks to support their child's mental health journey at home.

Toddlers, teens and everyone in between

We have a wealth of experience working with young people of all ages. With little ones, we use props and play to make therapy fun and accessible, while adolescents often see one of our younger, more relatable therapists.

Whatever your needs, we’re here to work with you.
